1990年代のDIYハードコア黎明期を経た2000年代初頭、アンダーグラウンドシーンでは新しいパンクとしてのScreamo/激情ハードコアが花開き、様々な国・都市から独自の解釈や表現を確立したバンドが世界同時多発的に出現していく時代があった。yarmulkeはそんな2000年代初頭に京都にて結成され、2006年に1stアルバム『yarmulke』を自主制作にてリリース、そして2008年にはOto Recordsから2ndアルバム『one theAter in square』をリリースした。彼らの残した2作品は日本でも盛り上がりをみせていた激情ハードコアのムーブメントの中でも特異な存在感を放つ名作となったが、2020年代に入った現代では残念ながら廃盤となっている。シーンの特筆すべき名盤であるこの2作を廃盤のままにしておくのではなくカタログとして再び世に提示すること、リスナーの手に届けることが本リリースの最大の目的である。インターネット黎明期、そしてSNS未到来の2000年代という時代、Google検索で簡単に答えを得るような時代ではなかったからこそ、2000年代のアートには突き詰められた試行錯誤の過程で描き出された表現があり、そこに何とも言えぬ魅力がある。それが世界的な2000年代Screamo/激情ハードコアの再評価が加速している理由なのかもしれない。
本作には1stアルバムと2ndアルバムの全曲に加え、そしてその前後、制作の過程に存在したデモや未発表の音源を収録した全22曲のコンプリートディスコグラフィとなる。2枚組CD仕様となっており、本数限定でKakusan Records(ノルウェー)/Zegema Beach Records(カナダ)からリリースされたカセットテープ音源の収録曲と同じ内容となっており、Disc1には『yarmulke』とデモトラック等の13曲を収録、Disc2には『one theAter in square』と未発表のセッションテイクから2トラックを加えた9曲を収録、CD版アートワークはMario(Svdestada,Khmer)によりカセット版の方向性を引き継ぐ形で再構成されています。また歌詞については日本語/英語対訳がそれぞれ掲載する形をとり、日本国外のリスナーに対しても楽しめる内容になっています。膨大なエネルギーと思考の痕跡が刻まれた楽曲たちは激しく、そして美しい日本の激情ハードコアに更なる革新を試みた記録。それがもし若者だけに許された特別な時間の産物だったとしても、今改めて聴くべき価値のあるもの

In the early 2000s, after the dawn of DIY hardcore in the 1990s, Screamo/Hardcore as a new punk genre blossomed in the underground scene, and bands with unique interpretations and expressions emerged simultaneously from various countries and cities around the world. The band was formed in Kyoto in the early 2000s, and released their first album "yarmulke" in 2006 as an independent production, followed by their second album "one theAter in square" from Oto Records in 2008. Their two albums were masterpieces that had a unique presence in the intense hardcore movement that was gaining momentum in Japan, but are unfortunately out of print now that we have entered the 2020s. The main purpose of this release is to present these two masterpieces to the world again as a catalog and to deliver them to the hands of listeners, rather than leaving them as out-of-print. In the 2000s, when the Internet was in its infancy and SNS had not yet arrived, it was not an era in which answers could be easily obtained through Google searches, which is why the art of the 2000s has an indescribable appeal, with expressions created through a process of trial and error. This may be the reason why the worldwide reevaluation of 2000s Screamo/Hardcore is accelerating.
The complete 22-song discography includes all songs from the first and second albums, as well as demos and unreleased material that existed before, during, and after the production process of the first and second albums. Disc 1 contains "yarmulke" and demo tracks, and Disc 2 contains "one theAter in square" and 2 tracks from previously unreleased session takes. The artwork for the CD version has been reconstructed by Mario (Svdestada, Khmer) in the same direction as the cassette version. and the lyrics have been translated into both Japanese and English for the enjoyment of listeners outside Japan. The songs, which are etched with traces of enormous energy and thought, are a record of further innovations in the intense and beautiful Japanese hardcore genre. Even if it is a product of a special time reserved only for young people, it is worth listening to again now.
